About Lisa Hancock
Lisa Hancock is a documentary photographer whose work explores the inner lives of her subjects and the psychological narratives at work beneath the surface, focusing on communities that are often overlooked and misunderstood.
She studied cultural anthropology at Barnard and worked in foster care before earning a master’s at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. After several years in documentary film, she turned to photography, studying at the International Center of Photography and through workshops, including one with the VII Agency in Cambodia.
Her current projects include ongoing work in India, focusing on the experiences of women in a rapidly changing social landscape. She is also developing a long-term project on adult survivors of the U.S. foster care system, exploring the ripple effects across generations.
A selection of her photographs is available as prints on Etsy.
